Empowering Girls’ Voices (Washington, D.C.)

A civic leadership experience for girls’ school students

The Empowering Girls’ Voices Summit brings students from girls’ schools to Washington, D.C. for an immersive experience in civic leadership, dialogue, and advocacy.

Developed in partnership with Close Up Foundation, this ICGS initiative helps students explore the issues they care about most while learning how to engage constructively with diverse perspectives and contribute to meaningful change.

What Students Experience

Throughout the summit, students participate in workshops, discussions, and collaborative activities designed to strengthen their understanding of civic engagement and leadership.

Participants have opportunities to:

  • explore national and global policy issues that matter to them
  • engage in dialogue with students from diverse backgrounds
  • develop policy proposals and advocacy strategies
  • learn from female leaders and policy experts
  • present ideas and solutions during a culminating civic action forum

The experience encourages students to think critically about the challenges facing their communities and to develop the confidence to make their voices heard.

Who Should Attend

The summit is designed for high school students from girls’ schools who are interested in civic engagement, public policy, and leadership.

Schools are encouraged to send a small cohort of students so they can collaborate during the program and bring their learning back to their school communities.

A Unique Learning Environment

Held in Washington, D.C., the program connects students directly with the institutions and conversations shaping public policy in the United States. Through facilitated dialogue and hands-on activities, participants develop skills in civil discourse, collaboration, and advocacy.

A concurrent summit for educators provides professional learning opportunities focused on civic education and facilitating meaningful discussion of current issues in the classroom.

Registration

Participation is open to students from ICGS member schools. Schools will receive information when registration opens for the next summit. For more information, contact info@girlsschools.org.
